Progressive Rock

While individual definitions of progressive rock vary from fan to fan and journalist to journalist, certain facts are mostly universal. The genre first emerged in the latter part of the 1960s and in the early 1970s rose to prominence through groups like Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Genesis. Punk rock and grunge triggered a period of declining interest in progressive rock.

While critics often maligned progressive rock, a legion of loyal fans stay true to the genre even in the 21st century. A prog rock renaissance happened in the 1980s with the emergence of bands like Marillion and Dream Theater. Explore progressive rock here.
