Palestine
The term "Palestine" means many different things to different people—and usually evokes an emotional response. In common modern usage "Palestine" refers to two areas: one is Gaza and the other is Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). Traditionally, "Palestine" has always referred to a region—one which evolved through many colonizers—but which was never a sovereign state.
Although these disputed territories have aspirations of statehood, this isn't a sure thing.
Is modern Palestine's conflict with Israel really about land? Or, as some point out, are there strong religious overtones? Is it true that the resolution of the Israel-Palestine issue will lead to peace in the Middle East?
