The MotoGP 2012 season will start a week earlier than originally planned, in Qatar in early April. Casey Stoner is the reigning champion, having last won the title in 2007. The teams are hoping for a better year than 2011, which saw the death of Marco Simoncelli in October, victim of a nasty-looking crash in which his helmet came off.
In British Superbikes, Tommy Hill eventually beat John Hopkins by two points, with Shane Byrne in third.
On the World Superbike stage, meanwhile, Carlos Checa led home Marco Melandri by over 100 points, followed in third by Max Biaggi, with Eugene Laverty classified fourth on the same number of points.
