Metaphysics

Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy concerned with what is described as "first principles." It enquires into the nature of reality and existence. It seeks to address the fundamental notions about our being in the world, about time and space and about cause and effect. Metaphysics asks: "What is there?" and "What is it like?" Is proof of the existence of God possible?

Looking at the bigger picture, Metaphysics' most important question must be: "What is the ultimate nature of everything in existence."

Subjects central to Metaphysics that are primarily about the nature of being - and also of logic which sets out principles for valid reasoning - are known under the specific sub-category of Ontology.
