Legends
Legends for children take many forms. Some legends explain the origins of holiday traditions -- like cards for St. Valentine or elves for Christmas. Some legends create larger than life figures to explain natural phenomena or sociopolitical realities -- the tall tales of Paul Bunyan, John Henry, and the making of the American West come to mind. Some legends make heroes out of ordinary folks by elaborating on their original histories -- Longfellow's poems about Hiawatha and Paul Revere are examples. All make for exciting reading!
