Great Writers
"A writer's ambition should be to trade a hundred contemporary readers for ten readers in ten years' time and for one reader in a hundred years." ~ Arthur Koestler, 1905-83, New York Times Book Review, 1 April 1951.
Some Great Writers truly surpass the test of time, making our world richer, helping us understand what would otherwise remain beyond our grasp. One such writer must be the metaphysical poet John Donne, who produced sensuous love poetry as superb religious sermons and critic, William Hazlitt. Modern examples are novelists Margaret Atwood, Alice Walker, Ben Okri and Ian McEwan, storytellers Helen Simpson and Raymond Carver, and poets Adrienne Rich, Maya Angelou and Ted Hughes.
These are writers who have excelled at their craft because of the clarity and originality of their thinking.
