British Poetry

From Beowulf to the Shakespeare sonnets to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner to Philip Larken to the contemporary world of Benjamin Zephaniah, British poetry offers a fertile, thriving field of art. Traditionally, the poets native to England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland have comprised the British poetry category.

From England, Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, Thomas Hardy, Wilfred Own, W. H. Auden, and Ted Hughes exemplify that country’s talent. W. B. Yeats, giant in the world of poetry, was born in Ireland. Probably the most noted Welsh poet is the ever-colorful Dylan Thomas. Scotland, of course, can boast the great talent of Robert Burns.
