Bouldering

Climbing boulders "the hard way" might seem silly and pointless, but as the masses of addicted boulderers out there will tell you, it's incredibly fun and athletically demanding. Bouldering involves climbing smaller rocks without the use of typical rock climbing safety equipment. Instead, boulderers protect the landing area with crash mats (or pads) -- professionally made, portable and soft landing surfaces created just for this purpose. Boulderers also spot one another, trying to direct the trajectory of the fall into the crash mat.
