Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that affects both genders, though a majority of individuals who are diagnosed with this condition are female. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, 10% to 15% of anorexia nervosa patients are male. Sufferers are typically underweight and they have an intense preoccupation with their weight. Individuals with anorexia nervosa may refuse to eat, eat very little or vomit after eating.
