Agoraphobia
Although Agoraphobia is an Anxiety Disorder, the prominence and severity of the symptoms warrants giving Agoraphobia its own category.
Unlike Social or Specific Phobias where avoidance is limited to specific situations, Agoraphobia leads to a pervasive avoidance of all situations in which escape is perceived to be impossible. In severe cases, the avoidance impairs all necessary daily activities.
Agoraphobia often coincides with frequent panic, resulting from fear of having a panic attack with no way out or no one to help. However, Agoraphobia may also occur without a history of Panic Disorder when the fear of having panic-like symptoms is present.
This section examines different aspects of Agoraphobia as it relates to children, men and women of all ages, including options and suggestions for support.
